Sea Island Cotton originated in South America but was perfected on the Sea Islands of Georgia and South Carolina in the late 1700s. It is still regarded as the most luxurious form of cotton.

Today the majority of production of the speciality cotton is from the Caribbean island (Barbados, Jamaica).
